THE LITTLE DOG TEAM

The Little Dog Coffee Shop is nothing without the skilled staff behind the counter making coffee and good food happen every single day.  They show up each morning with one goal in mind: serve great coffee and delicious food.  We're pretty fond of the crew and know you are as well. Let's all lift our mugs to these brilliant baristas and gifted bakers.

Calling Little Dog their own since January 2019

What’s the one thing you love the most about running the Little Dog? We love the people! We love our hardworking, fun-loving, brilliant employees that we have the pleasure of working with every day! And we love our customers! We love the diverse community we serve, we love that people from all walks of life find comfort in our little coffee shop. We have always loved hosting friends and family in our own home, and now we get to host people who become like friends and family in our coffee shop... how lucky are we? Also, the muffins. We love the muffins.

Favorite Little Dog Drinks: Caroline goes for cappuccinos and chai lattes, and Mason's current favorite is a maple cortado.

Memorable Coffee Moment: Not our first coffee memory, but definitely a favorite was taking our engagement photos in a coffee shop in Portland. We have always loved the coziness and sense of closeness shared between two people over a cup of coffee.

Our Roots: Mason grew up in northeast Pennsylvania, and Caroline grew up in Northern Maine. She's a County Girl! They met each other while attending UMaine in Orono.

Relocating to Brunswick: We had moved to Southern Maine in 2012, but were looking to settle into a good community with a wide variety of opportunities and thought Brunswick was the perfect place! Brunswick is a thriving community where you can find artistic, theatrical, physically active, hard-working and community-oriented Mainers around every corner. We are very excited and eager to be a part of this community, now and in the future.

We Love Maine: The ocean, lakes, rivers and mountains, the friendly people, the four seasons, and having the space to live your life and be who you want to be.

Dream Playlist: Lo-fi funky jazzy dreampop with Scandinavian influences, if that makes any sense at all.

Secret Talents: Mason has a board game collection that should certify him as an official board game geek, and Caroline is a humble wine connoisseur.

We’re Pet People: Tallulah (aka Tally) is our little dog we lovingly refer to as our "permanent puppy" due to her small size (40 lbs) and constant cuteness. Clooney is our giant lazy tabby cat, and yes, Caroline did name him after George Clooney because of his dashing good looks and cool attitude.

Willie Doehring

I began working in May of 2018.

First coffee memory:

I tried my first latte in an airport after being up for 20 hours straight, which didn't really help me stay awake but did get me hooked on espresso drinks!

Before you worked at Little Dog, what did you do?

Before Little Dog I was studying Creative Writing at the University of Maine in Farmington.

Favorite inspirational quote?

"If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I'll bed they'd live a lot differently." - Calvin, Calvin and Hobbes

(I love the quote so much it became my first tattoo!)

Dream coffee shop playlist?

I listen to a lot of rap/hip-hop which would probably be my dream playlist, but I'd also go for some more chill R&B or ambient music.

Secret talent/claim to fame?

I'm a little out of practice, but I'm a third degree black belt in Shaolin Kempo Karate.

Names of pets?

I have three cats (Harry, Ginger and Lily) and one very anxious dog (Ollie)!

What Makes You Smile? I'm always excited when someone tries a new scone or muffin I came up with, love seeing their initial reactions and opinions.

Past Work Experience: I lived in NYC and worked (also as a baker) for Magnolia Bakery in Grand Central.

Pet o' Mine: Technically she isn't my pet, she's my mother's. But her name is Emma the Pomeranian & her best trait is her undeniable cuteness. Which she works, for good or for evil.

Secret Talent: Wouldn't claim it a secret or "claim to fame," but people tend to be surprised that I actually have two bachelor degrees. One in English Writing and another in Japanese Literature from Colgate University.

Inspirational Quote: “All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost” The first verse from Tolkien's "All that is Gold does not Glitter," also known as "The Riddle of Strider."

"Creative, Straightforward, and Fun"

First Coffee Memory: My dad grinding and brewing Eight O’Clock Coffee every morning

Life Before Little Dog: SALT Institute for Documentary Studies at Maine College of Art.

Pet o' Mine: Alice is a chihuazer (chihuahua-schnauzer). She goes with the flow, wherever her people go—sick in bed, hiking, or driving 3,000 mi in a moving truck.

Secret Talent: Live storytelling.

Prized Possession: My kids’ fridge drawings.

Dream Coffeeshop Background Playlist: Something like Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Brandi Carlisle, The Lumineers, Blind Willie McTell, Lord Huron, LOLO, The Ghost of Paul Revere and amateur composed mixes.

When I’m not at Little Dog, I’ll be: planning a game night, hiking, and taking road trips.

"My friends have described me as spunky, determined, creative, funny, & lighthearted."

Favorite Little Dog Drink: Chai tea latte.

I Show Up to Work Every Day Because: The people, customers and my coworkers make this place a good environment.

Life Before Little Dog: I worked at Starbucks for about 2 years and I’m currently in the Army National Guard.

Secret Talent: I would have to say my paintings. A lot of people know I draw and craft but not necessarily paint.

"I like dogs."

Favorite Little Dog Drinks: Spicy mocha breve or cider chai.

Dear Customer, You Must Try This: Savory scones!

First Coffee Memory: Making a pot of coffee in the morning with my mom.

Life Before Little Dog: Studied economics and business management at Goucher College.

Pet o' Mine: Branson the bunny, he is such a sweet heart and loves to watch movies!

Prized Possession: My favorite sweatshirt.

Dream Coffeeshop Background Playlist: 70's pop!

Inspirational Quote: "“A goal without a plan is just a wish.”

"Intuitive, thoughtful, loyal, and diligent."

Favorite Little Dog Drinks: Too hard to pick one. My frequent go-to's include double cortado with coconut milk, 12oz double raspberry latte, or London Fog. Cold drink has to be black tea with lemon.

Why I Work At Little Dog: Working in downtown Brunswick. Between the morning regulars, afternoon Bowdoin students, and everyone in between I think I've got a good picture of all the awesome people who live, work, or otherwise pass through my favorite small town.

First Coffee Memory: Being woken up on cold mornings to catch the bus to school, while the aroma of my mother's morning coffee filled the house. These first memories were not happy ones. Later, when I could drink it myself, coffee became the only good thing about waking up early on a cold day.

Pet o' Mine: My cat Calvin is great at playing fetch. Works best with his toy mouse, but he's more than willing to chase crumpled receipts, candy wrappers, or twist-ties all day. Second best trait is him using my beard to brush his head during cuddles.

Secret Talent: I know all the dialogue to the Emperor's New Groove. I'm not allowed to suggest this movie on movie nights because I end up talking (and laughing) during the entire run-time. "Oh, all right, a quick cup of coffee, THEN TAKE HIM OUT OF TOWN AND FINISH THE JOB!"

Dream Coffeeshop Background Playlist: When not working: Downtempo Jazz and Electronica. Airy and dreamy; the perfect soundtrack to sipping espresso, reading, writing, or getting lost in thought. When working: upbeat indie rock to keep the energy up.

Inspirational Quote: "All great deeds and all great thoughts have a ridiculous beginning. Great works are often born on a street corner or in a restaurant's revolving door." -Albert Camus

"Hardworking, creative, kind, quiet"

Favorite Little Dog Drinks: My favorite hot drink is a vanilla peppermint latte and my favorite cold drink is a blueberry mocha.

Pet o' Mine: I have a tiny dog named Rusty who is ten years old and still very energetic and loving. My two cats are Finnick and Osiris and they’re big cuddly kitties with great personalities. And I also have a bunny named Bunzo who is honestly just adorable.

Secret Talent: Cats love me.

Dream Coffeeshop Background Playlist: I love all sorts of music so it would really depend on the day!
